THE FLY HONEYS

The Fly Honeys bring audiences and performers together in a dance-forward extravaganza that invites everyone to be fiercely brave and vulnerable. Established in 2010 and growing from a one-night 200 person event to a full blown “Chicago Institution”, The Fly Honeys were the brain child of director/choreographer Erin Kilmurray and has been manifested by hundreds of movers, makers, musicians, DJ’s, producers, promoters, nightlife and variety artists. The shows will leave you hot, happy, and heavily empowered. The Fly Honeys are sex-expansive, queer-celebratory, and full of self and community love. They have been described as "Funny, ferocious, vulnerable, naked in every sense: it's camp transcendent, The Fly Honeys have been buzzing around Chicago performing short form sets and production The Fly Honey Show to sold-out venues, rooms, clubs, theaters, basements for over a ten seasons.”

NEVERMORE PARK

Nevermore Park is a 6,000sq foot art experience that will transport you into an exciting alternate reality filled with new sights and sounds. Powered by the imagination of artist Hebru Brantley, visitors spend a day in the life of his iconic characters, Flyboy and Lil Mama.

““On a surface level, [Nevermore Park is] an extremely fun, engaging, interactive experience—it could be easily just an Instagrammable moment for people,” says Brantley. “[But] looking into the detail, and kind of understanding Chicago’s political history—Chicago’s history—and then, from a revisionist history standpoint, stepping back and looking at sort of the ‘What if?’ of it all within this installation.”” - Hebru Brantley in an interview with The Root

general manager

As General Manager for Nevermore Park, Missi built all aspects of the daily operations from the ground up. At the helm of a true start-up, Missi worked hand-in-hand with the producing team to understand their strategic goals and created customized systems for effective, efficient, and culturally aligned operations. Missi was responsible for designing the organizational chart, assigning roles and responsibilities, recruiting, hiring, training and ongoing management across all operations departments including front of house, box office, administration, production, facilities and merchandise. Additionally, she was responsible for the weekly operating budget and strategic planning for long-term operational enhancement initiatives. At the end of her tenure with Nevermore Park, the experience had grown from the goal of a six to eight month extended run into a business that is now setting it’s sights to become a Chicago institution for the long-haul.

schlitz bouts

Commissioned by Schlitz Brewery as a rebranding event for Schlitz Heritage, Missi was approached to design a full-scale 1920’s nightlife experience that was a cross-over for entertainment and sports. The result was a partnership with Chicago Boxing Club to present a turn of the century extravaganza complete with vaudeville acts and a real life amateur boxing match.

Curated and produced by Missi Davis with the performance direction of Gus Menary; Mary Williamson and Davis Haines hosted an array of performances including The Fly Honeys, magic by Brett Schneider, The Galaxie Dancers, and special guest Stephen DeRosa (best known for his role of Eddie Cantor on Boardwalk Empire). Angie Tillges’ art direction and Anna Glowacki’s costume design transported guests back in time while they cheered on the bouts provided by Chicago Boxing Club. Guests were encouraged to dress the part, and Pokey Lafarge closed out the evening with his signature musical stylings.

As Producer, Missi was responsible for creating the experience in line with the client’s vision. This includes strategic development, budgeting, curation, and acquiring appropriate business partnerships.
